Breathe! Slow, deep breath, in slowly, release slowly. Again, nice and slow. One more time, in and out.
Such a simple thing, such is breathing. But this simple thing can calm us like no other. Breathing is the stuff of life. Just ask someone who has difficulty breathing; those with asthma, or COPD.
The Breath: controlling breath, rhythmic breathing as in meditation, deep breathing like the Olympic athlete. Many cultures see breath as Spirit. Breathing deeply is the intake of spirit; breath out as releasing negative energy, obstacles, illness. Hence, the process of breathing is a HEALING exercise.
Anxiety is a huge issue right now. Many of us are quite familiar with anxiety. It accompanies us throughout our lives. It may be associated with our primary condition, such as depression or bipolar. Or, anxiety may be the ‘main feature.’ Either way, it ain’t pretty. So, BREATHE!
Next: Find an activity that relaxes you. One of my favorite activities as a child was coloring. I’m not an artist, but I love art of any kind. So when I found an on-line coloring app, I was on it. I attached one of my ‘masterpieces’ to this article. I loved the message:
“Set a goal so big that you can’t achieve it until you grow into the person who can.”
Think on this for a moment or two. That is my second favorite thing: Quotes. Quotes that give you food for thought. So I was delighted when I found my two combined into a single activity.
It really is the simple things in life that provide healing. What is your ‘mind-massage’? Perhaps knitting or crochet relaxes you (my Mom’s favorite). Or, baking, sculpture, writing, blogging, and more.
If you have not yet found your ‘mind-massage’ – explore, experiment. Truly, try what appeals to you, what makes you breathe easier, what makes your shoulders relax and gives you a sense of peace.
Try coloring 🥰
